Ektron
eWebEditPro+XML makes it easy for non-technical users to work
with XML content. Unlike other XML editors, which require
a technical background, eWebEditPro+XML is browser-based and
features a word processor-like interface. By making the XML
transparent, eWebEditPro+XML brings the power of XML to the
desktops of business users everywhere. Using Ektron eWebEditPro+XML,
you can create XML product catalogs, publication listings,
real estate listings, contact databases, etc. with no knowledge
of XML.
Why XML?
XML is rapidly replacing HTML as the superior Web technology
for collecting and retrieving data. XML has built-in capabilities
to validate content upon entry, repurpose content for various
devices (Web browsers, printers, PDAs, etc.), and provide
more robust and efficient searching. If any group or organization
standardizes how data is structured (such as DocBook or
NewsML), XML can ensure that your content conforms to that
structure.
Collecting and Displaying XML Content
To collect XML content with eWebEditPro+XML, you create
a data collection screen to solicit the information. You
don't need to know anything about validation and XSLT transformation
files -- we create them for you behind the scenes.
The process of creating a screen couldn't be easier. You
select a field type (for example, free text or selection
list) then place the field where you want it on the screen.
eWebEditPro+XML's extensive formatting functions (tables,
hyperlinks, images, color) help you design an attractive
presentation. Next, switch the editor to data entry mode
and make it available to users who will enter the content.
They could be staff members using an intranet, partners
on an extranet, or visitors to a public site. In this mode,
any fields to which you assigned validation criteria (for
example, a field must have a response) are surrounded by
red dashes to indicate that a response is required. The
XML content is typically saved to a database.
